Jewelry in motion: Kinetic architecture for your hands

by Dukno Yoon

We have always been fascinated with kinetic art at PopTech.

More simple, pretty, useless machines. I love how light and airy these look, the Da Vinci-esque style, and how immediate the interaction is. Beautiful design.

If Hot Wheels and the obligatory rickety plastic race tracks were the toys of your youth, then this is a dream come true. Amazing (and gigantic) kinetic sculpture by artist Chris Burden celebrating Hot Wheels

Wonder Object, Documentary on Kinetic Art Sculptures by Gary Schott (via laughingsquid)

“I like my work to be humorous, that’s what I need out of my work, and in fact I quite enjoy that the work itself is very time consuming and yet all of it is to make this device do this kind of almost ridiculous intimate action.”

I love how mechanical these pieces are, the “simplicity of cause and effect” that Mr. Schott refers to, and how simple but satisfying the interaction is. There’s a lot of whimsy without being cloying.
